Starting from the ground up, I want to build a contemporary label and I want to do it my way. Just like I did in my pro cycling career. Being part of the pro peloton for over a decade gave me deep insight into what does and does not work on the road. I use this knowledge extensively throughout every aspect of the design process. But most importantly, I believe that technical function must not inhibit style. My mission is to bring together performance, innovation and contemporary fashion. And I will give everything I have to design the perfect garment or accessory.

The best feeling is to break away from the peloton and ride your own race. We are all cyclists and we are all unique. That’s why all my collections are limited editions.

Iris Slappendel

For discerning riders who dare to choose their own route.

Ex pro cyclist Iris Slappendel had always combined design work with her bike racing career, as she had a Design degree.  She’s done all kinds of things, from designing bikes, to making websites to team-mates, to designing bike kit (most famously for the Dutch 2016 Olympic cycling team and the 2014 UCI’s Road World Cup leaders’ jerseys). Iris Slappendel raced twelve years as a pro all over the world, from 2004 until 2016. She was also part of the Dutch National team and competed in multiple World Championships. She won the Dutch National Championships in 2014.
After retiring as a pro-cyclists she decided to take a leap into faith and started I R I S in 2017, which still is a solo project. She designs, tests and creates all kit by herself. Manufacturing takes place in Italy. Besides that she’s been instrumental to positive changes for women’s cycling off the bike through her work with The Cyclists’ Alliance, an organisation she set up to confront sexism and inequality in women’s pro cycling.
